New sequential art association

On 7 March 2026, three dedicated individuals founded the LUXBD association. During a meeting at midday, they signed the statutes and the founding document. The association is expected to be registered as a non-profit ASBL and can now commence its activities.

The project began on 4 November 2025 as a private initiative by Ronald Mordiconi. What started then as personal commitment is now being transformed into an official association structure. LUXBD is dedicated to strengthening comic culture in Luxembourg. A central focus is on Luxembourgish artists, Luxembourgish bande dessinée, and caricaturists. The association aims to provide an open platform that brings together various areas of the ninth art. These include Franco-Belgian BD, Japanese manga, Korean webtoons, American comics, European independent titles, and experimental graphic novels.

The initiators note that the local comic scene has gained considerable momentum in recent years. However, a central, organised structure connecting all interested parties was lacking. LUXBD is intended to fulfil this role. Planned activities include regular meetings, readings, drawing workshops, exhibitions, and collaborations with libraries, bookshops, and cultural events. Luxembourgish illustrators, authors, self-publishers, and caricaturists are to receive targeted support.

The statutes establish an open and grassroots-democratic structure. In addition to an executive board, thematic working groups are planned. These will focus on various areas, including manga, European BD, cosplay, digital publishing, or comic journalism. In the coming weeks, initial concrete activities will be announced, including an introductory event in spring and a monthly meet-up.

With the founding of LUXBD, the Luxembourg comic landscape gains a new, inclusive organisation. It is aimed at everyone interested in comics – regardless of whether they are long-time readers, collectors, artists, or newcomers. The association emphasises diversity and the long-term strengthening of the local scene.
