KABOOM, the Printed Artifact

Materiality and Documentation of Sequential Art

In an era of increasing digital distribution, the cultural magazine KABOOM sets a dedicated milestone for the persistent relevance of the printed format within the European cultural landscape. The graphic literature of the region, navigating between Franco-Belgian influences, local traditions, and global movements, experiences a lasting haptic enhancement through this physical medium. The magazine combines the depth of contemporary specialized discourse with the bibliophile value of a physical collector's object.

The publication enables an in-depth exegesis of sequential narrative forms and specifically promotes the culture of systematic collecting in an ephemeral digital world. With the introduction of this print edition, the institution establishes a permanent format that sets new standards through exclusive content, scholarly analyses, and sophisticated typography. The objective remains the comprehensive appreciation of graphic literature as a material cultural asset of lasting value.

The journal thus bridges the gap between the virtual specialist community and the physical artifact, functioning as a vital cultural memory that preserves aesthetic diversity.

Project Structure and Edition Planning of the Printed Artifact

The continuous exploration of regional sequential art receives a permanent material foundation through the publication of KABOOM. The periodical is scheduled to appear in print for the first time in the third or fourth quarter of 2026, forming the haptic counterpoint to the institution's daily updated online journal. While the digital platform serves as the dynamic basis for contemporary discourse and critical analysis, the printed format concentrates on the preservation and in-depth documentation of graphic literature in the Grand Duchy and the Greater Region. The publication strategy follows a clear institutional hierarchy that prioritizes internal discourse and strictly fulfills the criteria of a controlled distribution.

In the initial phase, the printed edition will be made available exclusively to the active members and registered actors of the association in order to systematically strengthen the foundation of the internal specialist community and promote direct exchange regarding the produced content. An opening for the regular retail market is envisioned for a later date, as soon as the regulatory, organizational, and legal framework of the institution formally permits this step. In that secondary phase, distribution will focus on specialized retail stores and selected bookstores, while traditional subscription models are explicitly excluded at the current stage to preserve the exclusivity of the internal registry.

The editorial scope reflects the five established core areas of the institution and offers space for scholarly treatises on historical milestones, profound creator profiles, and detailed analyses regarding the institutional promotion of the genre. The print edition enables an in-depth exegesis of complex image-text structures that often remain ephemeral in the digital space. The presentation is complemented by high-quality visual productions and selected cover variants that bridge the gap between historical documentation and an independent artistic object. The journal thus functions as a vital cultural memory that preserves the lasting value of sequential narrative forms. Updates regarding the exact release date and legal clearances for the secondary market will be continuously communicated through the official portal and the internal information channels.
